World championship: Sweden shuts out Finland to advance to final

STOCKHOLM--Sweden has the opportunity to win a men's world hockey championship as the host country for the first time since the Soviet Union did it in 1986.

Sweden blanked Finland 3-0 in Saturday's semifinal at Stockholm's Globe Arena to advance to Sunday's championship game.

The Soviet Union won a men's world hockey title 27 years ago in Moscow.

"It's about time, it's about time," Swedish forward Henrik Sedin said. "No pressure, just fun.

IIHF World Championship: Canada loses 3-2 in a shootout to Sweden

STOCKHOLM--Canada has been eliminated in the quarter-finals of the IIHF World Championship for a fourth straight year with a 3-2 shootout loss to host Sweden.

Fredrik Pettersson scored the winner in the fourth round of the shootout to give Sweden a spot in the semifinals.

Trailing 1-0, Nicklas Danielsson scored a pair of power-play goals in the third period to give the hosts a 2-1 lead. Canada's Claude Giroux tied the game just over a minute after Danielsson's second goal.

Steve Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning scored a second-period power-play goal.
