Mon, 2013-05-20 16:03
Journalist:

On Sunday, President Obama gave the all-male graduating class of Morehouse College very important advice for their futures during his commencement speech. "Be the best father you can be," he said. The president then got personal, explaining how he wishes his father was there for him growing up. "I have tried to be for Michelle and my girls what my father was not for my mother and me.

Clarence B. Jones: Time for Tough Love

Mon, 2013-05-20 15:09
Journalist:

During the past few months I have been very concerned that the Second Amendment was being misused, and its historical application distorted, as an offensive shield against any effort to encourage and require only the smart and responsible ownership and use of guns in our nation. Thus, like an overwhelming majority of my fellow citizens, I supported President Obama's efforts to get Congress to enact legislation requiring background checks on the purchase and sale of guns.

Kerry and Hagel: An Interm Report

Mon, 2013-05-20 15:04
Journalist:

John Kerry and Chuck Hagel have been at the helm of American foreign and security policy for some months now. Much was expected from new faces, new approaches and -- perhaps -- some new thinking. How are they doing? Any proposed answer, however tentative, depends on the standards used to measure success or failure in the conduct of the United States' external relations. If you judge the direction of the Obama administration's foreign policy over the past four-plus years as basically sound, then there are solid grounds for rating the new team highly.

Mon, 2013-05-20 13:11

Over the weekend, CNN released the first extensive national polling on the "scandals" that have gripped Washington, and it got a bit of a bounce yesterday over two key findings. First, Obama's approval rating is holding steady (53 percent) despite the scandal chatter. ... Continue reading ->

The Ballad Of Barack Obama, Tricky Dick, And Billie Sol

WASHINGTON, DC - MAY 15: U.S. President Barac...

If I were a lyricist, I would pen a ballad about the scandals from this past week. It would have to be a country song because no other format could capture the irony that, all in the same week, we eulogized Billie Sol Estes, a con man tied to Lyndon Johnson, celebrated the 40thanniversary of the Watergate hearings, and took in President Obama's 3-part scandal of IRS investigations of political opponents, Benghazi cover-ups and AP subpoenas.

Obama's Approval Rating Survives Scandal Week

Mon, 2013-05-20 00:23
Journalist:

Here's one place where the president didn't have a dramatic week: in his approval ratings. According to two polls -- the Gallup daily tracking poll, and a CNN/ORC International poll released Sunday -- Obama's approval rating has more or less remained steady as potential scandal upon potential scandal blew up the news cycle.

Earl Ofari Hutchinson: Why the Public Should Yawn Over Alleged Obama Scandals

Sun, 2013-05-19 22:44

The mostly media driven scandal talk involving President Obama has so far stirred barely a yawn among the public. There are good reasons. The four alleged scandals, Benghazi, the IRS, the AP leaks, and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius supposed shakedown of corporations to help implement the health care act don't come close to passing the smell test for a public fogging of the president. There is absolutely no clear-cut evidence or testimony that Obama had any knowledge of or hand in the missteps. And the comparison to Watergate, or Nixon, is a joke and an insult.

Vineyard-bound Obamas looking at Farm Neck for vacation?

Sun, 2013-05-19 22:26

Between Benghazi, the IRS badgering the tea party, and assorted other brush fires, it's hard to imagine President Obama will have time for a vacation this summer. But apparently he will. There's been no official word from the White House, but we're hearing the Obamas have their eyes on a house in Farm Neck on Martha's Vineyard. During three previous visits, POTUS and FLOTUS and their daughters Malia and Sasha stayed at Blue Heron Farm in Chilmark. But British architect Norman Foster has since bought the place for $21.9 million.
